There are many different ways to deal with stress. Choose ones that best fit your needs. The following is a suggested list only. They are not a cure for stress, just tips to relieve stress and anxiety.

Physical activity or exercise of some kind will clear your mind and keep stress under control. Try taking a nature walk or a bike ride to sooth your mind.Perhaps playing as basketball or baseball with the kids or neighbors will work of steam. Any type of exercise will help get your stress level down, if possible try to follow a regular routine a few times a week.

Meditation and breathing exercises are excellent ways to deal with stress. Yoga and stretching are also ways to get anxiety and stress to a minimum.

Sleep is essential. If you have trouble sleeping you may need to see a doctor. Exercise often times helps with sleep. Don't exercise to close to bedtime though. Keep your caffeine and alcohol levels to a low minimum. If you are pumped up on caffeine or alcohol you may have trouble sleeping. Make bedtime a routine, no tv, or loud noises at bedtime. Go to bed at regular times if you can.

Keep a journal, write down what is stressing you out. Keep up with your hobbies. Watch a movie, read a book, play with your pet. Don't dwell on your stress. Try to make some time for yourself and enjoy what you are doing.

If you cannot deal with your stress, you may need to see a doctor or perhaps a therapist. Talking to someone about your problems, anxiety and stress can greatly reduce your suffering. You may need a medication, or just the support alone will help you get through the rough times you are experiencing.

After my cat Ethel died (18) 2 months ago I started walking because I couldn't sleep. I would wake up at odd hours and start walking. Couldn't go very far at first b/c of a back injury but now walk about 45 minutes and lost 20 pounds, I also started jumping on the mini trampoline for about 10 minutes a day. As far as motivation I just needed to stop crying, and then I liked losing weight, so your right about that. Making it a habit is the major key.

Very valid points and the more one exercises and gets into the habit...well the better they feel...one just needs motivation and sometimes encouragement.
