Get Set, Ready, Jump

The Mexican jumping bean is so easy and fun to care for, and believe it or not they are still around. They were very popular back in the day, and people enjoy them even in this day and age, if you are able to find them.  They are very easy to obtain on the internet.

Mexican jumping beans make the perfect pet, because you don't have to take them for walks, change their litter box, or teach them new tricks. They are very safe, super clean, affordable and so easy to take care of. Mexican jumping beans reach maturity in May, they are harvested only once a year, and must be collected very soon after reaching the ground.

To Keep your Mexican jumping beans healthy and jumping follow the helpful hints below.

• Always Be Gentle. You're Mexican jumping beans need tender loving care.  Shaking of you're jumping beans,  dropping them, and spinning them may give them irreversible brain damage,  rendering you're jumping beans lifeless.

 • Always keep you're Mexican jumping beans in a cool  place when you're not playing with them. Store them in a cool, safe place like a  dresser drawer or inside your closet.  It is safe to store them in the butter compartment of your refrigerator  if you would like them to live  longer (over 2-3 months), but NEVER store you're jumping beans in the freezer. Putting them in the freezer will kill you're Mexican jumping beans.

 • Always make sure you're Mexican jumping beans are kept nice and clean, because they do get dirty,  it is best to rinse them gently without soap.

 • You're Mexican jumping  beans on occasion enjoy some water. Use a spray bottle for best results. Dry them afterward.  If you don't dry the beans, wetness may cause mold to grow on them, or shorten their life span.

 • You're Mexican jumping beans do NOT like extreme weather such as heat. They will hatch in extreme heat.  Keep them out of the hot sun and other hot places like a car.

Use these tips,  and you're Mexican Jumping Beans should have a long ( about 3 months) and enjoyable life.  Have Fun and happy jumping.

Those Mexican Jumping Beans are a huge problem... taking jobs away from American beans.

put them in a tuppaware container with some leaves and water. They will live for about 2-3 days at the most, unfortunately and just look for a mate. Unless you have the same plant nearby, the life cycle is over and they will die shortly.

You can gently dry them with paper towel, letting them set may cause some mildew.

The moth eggs fall off the bean. You don't eat the beans so there really isn't any harm.

Great idea, I can just imagine setting them on the table watching them jump for hours. Paying so much attention to the jumping beans, we forget to be stressed. :)

Thank you for the comment, so appreciated.

Oh, I love this. And as a child - we had to have these. What a fun, clever hub. Thanks so much. Now I want them once again. It's been a million years.

What a fun gift this will make for my adult friends. I think the beans will relieve stress. Especially if we name them.

Yay! Rated up!

DzyMsLizzy-every Spring when a shrub in Mexico begins to bloom, a few weeks later the eggs hatch and the tiny larvae eats its way to the inside of the flowers capsule. The capsules that contain the larva become hard and change to a brownish color. The moth larvae, now begins eating the developing seed inside the capsule as food, the capsules separate into three sections and fall to the ground. The capsules that contain a moth larvae inside begin to jump. The Mexican Jumping Bean has come to life. I hope that answers your question :)

I wonder what kind of bug or worm comes out if they do hatch? I've always wondered that, but never tried to do so. LOL

Also, are they seeds appropriated by a bug, or are they actual egg cases of whatever parent insect--as with a cocoon??
